Industry: High-End Furniture
MillerKnoll creates some of the highest-quality, most sustainable office furniture in the world. They’re known worldwide for their innovative designs and how they use them to improve people’s lives. With so many locations around the world, they turned to Weavix to help keep their large number of facilities safe.
Business Challenge
MillerKnoll was looking for a communication solution for their security team that gave them greater range than their previous push-to-talk radios and cell phones. They needed a simple solution that could go anywhere and do everything all with one device.
“Our patrols in West Michigan use them constantly to check doors and make sure buildings are closed, and alarms are set at night. The Motorola devices we previously used were cellular and Wi-Fi. It worked in Michigan, but in Pennsylvania, it was hit or miss, and in Toronto, it was nonexistent. It didn’t work at all.”— Ronald Gromak, Global Security Ops Director Michigan
Why They Chose walt Smart Radio System
Fixed Cost
“This particular purchase simply was added to our budget for the fiscal year, and moving forward, we can just count on spending that amount of money.”— Ronald Gromak
Officer Safety
“When officers go into a building, they know that they can reach us. Before, they couldn’t. They’d go into their manufacturing areas to do inspections and they couldn’t talk, so they’d reach for their cell phone or a landline to call us, and when it’s time-sensitive, that isn’t good.”— Ronald Gromak
Solution
weavix stepped in and solved many of their communication problems with a simple solution. On top of that, the platform saved them money from day one.
“We took our security communications platform from almost nothing to 100 percent. Typical radio licenses are restricted to a geographical area. With this, you can cross the county line, and the state line.”— Ronald Gromak
Greater Accountability
The Weavix platform also built accountability into their systems to keep everyone safer and their locations more secure.
“With that comes the accountability of the people we’re servicing. My guys, we adopted a new policy. We talk to everybody every hour. Radio checks are done every hour. We know they’re safe. We know they’re secure. They can call for help when they need it. We didn’t have that before.”— Ronald Gromak
Increased Usage
Mr. Gromak was also surprised by how much they used the walt Smart Radio compared to their previous platform.
“I gather metrics now, and I’m really surprised at the number of transmissions that we have per month. It has increased. We’re in the 40,000 transmits per month on the system. With our previous communication, we didn’t use the system nearly as much.”— Ronald Gromak
Giving Workers a Voice
“I wanted my team to feel like they had a chance to share things. I wanted my forklift team to be empowered to communicate back to us and tell us what was going on. I don’t know that we’ve
always given our team the tools to make sure that what they’re doing every day and what they’re seeing is getting back to the appropriate people. With Weavix, we now have that opportunity.”— Ronald Gromak
Pictures and Videos
MillerKnoll also discovered that picture and video messaging could help them streamline their everyday operations and safety.
“The picture and video are very helpful. For example, if our guys monitor fire systems and there’s a pump not running, they can send a video to maintenance, and the experts can look at it, give
an instant analysis, even from home, and begin to fix the issue.”— Ronald Gromak
Cost and Time Savings
On top of that, the platform saved them money from day one
“With our old system, we had to pay guards overtime so that one guard could do the patrol log around the plant and the other stayed in the guard house. Weavix ended that overtime because
the guard in the shack can now go around and do those checks while still having the ability to communicate back to us.”— Ronald Gromak
Weavix Just Works
Mr. Gromak and MillerKnoll began using weavix to boost communication, and along the way, they discovered that there are so many uses for their application. But in the end, they’ve learned that they can trust the platform to do the job.
“It works. I can talk to the guards in Toronto, Canada, from here in Michigan. When my crew calls somebody, they can get a hold of them. And even if they don’t respond, they can look on the map to see where they are and see that they’re ok. We’ve established communication with people we didn’t have before.”— Ronald Gromak
